Markell Lewis, 25, of Clinton has been arrested for the fatal shooting in Temple Hills of 30-year-old Danny Kelly Jr., Prince George's County Police said.

Kelly Jr. was behind the wheel of his family's SUV on St. Barnabas Road with his girlfriend and three children in the car when Lewis pulled up and opened fire, hitting Kelly around 4:40 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later.

The suspect vehicle was later identified to be a dark blue GMC Envoy, which was registered to Lewis' family member.

After identifying the vehicle and Lewis, detectives learned that on Dec. 27, Prince George's County Police arrested him on St. Barnabas Road for being a felon in possession of a gun.

The gun recovered during that arrest was subsequently linked to the murder of Kelly. Officers arrested Lewis on Jan. 13, at his home in Clinton. Police are continuing to search for the GMC Envoy.

Lewis is currently charged with a total of 36 charges to include first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and multiple counts of attempted murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is being held on a no-bond status.

The motive for the murder is road rage.
